50% of the grade for biology students is based on final projects to be submitted by a given deadline during the exam period. A short personal meeting with instructors takes place several days after project submission.

You can explore the use of bioinformatics tools and databases relevant for your thesis topic, but you can also work on other topics of interest.

Project report

Please submit a pdf with your project report. The report should contain the following:

  • Introduction giving a background for your projects (what are your goals and motivation, necessary biological background for understanding the project)
  • Description of your data and methods (which tools you have used, what options you selected or were preselected).
  • Results you have obtained and the discussion of these results. Are they relevant for you? Do they seem reliable / in agreement with other sources? What could you learn about the used methods or databases to help you interpret these results or select options?
  • Conclusion summarizing the main results and remaining challenges as well as what you learned and what was difficult for you on the project.
  • Please cite sources relevant for your project but there is no need to include a lengthy literature review.

In your report, you do not need to separate methods and results to separate sections, but you can interleave them, e.g. describe methods of one analysis and its result, then another analysis and so on.
